Rugby has more often than not been referred to one of the roughest sports that there is. It is therefore not surprising that if a player is not careful, their socks will literally be knocked off their feet. So how, therefore, does one ensure that their socks keep in position despite the different tackles that the sport involves.

First off, what are rugby socks?

Much like those used in other sports like football, rugby socks are long pairs of socks that pull up beneath the knee. They are not supposed to go above the knee but have enough length and stretchability to cover the calves and shins. They are supposed to be made of breathable comfortable material and are often have a thicker foot segment to ensure maximum fitting and have cushioning in different parts of the foot to reduce dangers of blistering and injury.

However, though manufacturers continually innovate new ways of ensuring that rugby socks are ideal for the amusement, players too need to put certain things into consideration to ensure that the socks are worn the right way.

1. Size

Be sure to wear the right sock size for your game. Socks that are too big will continually slide off your feet and you will spend a big amount of time constantly correcting them, thereby giving your opponent ample time to beat you. Wear socks fit the size and shape of your foot perfectly to reduce slips in the boot and sliding down amid gameplay.

2. Right sock on right foot

This may seem cliché, but it is important to ensure that socks that are meant to the right foot are placed on t he right and those for the left foot are placed on the left. Criss crossing them will create discomfort and alter the fitting of the socks. More often than not, they may have symbols of L and R indicating Left and Right. However, even in the absence of the same, it is easy to determine which sock goes on which foot.

3. Pull up your sock

Before the start of play, it is advisable to ensure that your socks are pulled up to below the knee. The socks are usually made in such a way that their elastic both in the middle and at the top expands to fit the size of your foot ensuring that the sock stays up and in place. So, all you have to do is pull up your socks and if they are the right size, they should stay up the rest of the game.

Remember, wearing your socks the right way could be the protection you need from injury and blistering.
